It is truly the dog days of summer in Washington. As we noted last week, Congress is out of session until September, Washington’s battalions of lawyers and lobbyists have headed for the beach, and there is not much happening this coming week on the regulatory agenda. U.S. Congressional Hearings
Both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate are out of session for the month of August. No hearings are scheduled.
US Regulatory Meetings & Events
Monday, August 8, 2023: The U.s. Court of Appeals for the Firth Circuit will hear arguments Monday in a case over the SEC’s 2022 proxy advisory firm regulations. The hearing will be the biggest judicial test yet of SEC authority in removing 2020 curbs on firms that advise large funds voting on ESG proposals and other matters at annual shareholder meetings.
Wednesday & Thursday, August 9 & 10, 2023: The Securities and Exchange Commission holds closed meetings on both days.

Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., August 8, 2023 - The Bipartisan Policy Center hosts their Leaders Speakers Series with Ginnie Mae President Alanna McCargo. She will be speaking on “Opportunities to Expand Homeownership Opportunities for Underserved People and Communities”
Wednesday, 9:00 a.m., August 9, 2023: The Peterson Institute for International Economics holds a panel discussion on “Can supervisory reform prevent repeat bank failures in the US?”
